Women's golf moves up to No. 18 in latest coaches poll

The Oglethorpe women's golf team moved seven spots up the rankings to No. 18 in the latest Division III Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coaches Poll, released by the organization Friday. It marked the highest point of the season for the Stormy Petrels, who entered the poll at 25th to start their spring season.

The Petrels have continued their outstanding run of play into the spring, netting an eighth-place finish at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational and a sixth-place finish amidst the stacked field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. It marked their best-ever finish at the latter tournament.

Carleton retained first place in the poll, garnering 12 of a possible 13 first-place nods. George Fox received the other No. 1 vote and came in at No. 2. DePauw moved up a spot to come in at No. 3, while New York University jumped into the top five at No. 4. Oglethorpe's fellow SAA member Rhodes stayed put at No. 5. Claremont-M-S, Grinnell, Washington (Missouri), Williams, Carnegie Mellon and Methodist rounded out the top 10, with the latter two teams tying for No. 10.

No. 15 Berry and No. 25 Sewanee joined the Petrels and Lynx as SAA teams earning spots in the top 25. Birmingham-Southern also received votes.

The Petrels close out their regular season with a trip to Bessemer, Alabama, for the BSC Southern Showdown Monday and Tuesday. After that, they'll get ready for the SAA Golf Championships in Dickson, Tennessee, April 26-28.
