Women's golf rises to 16th in latest coaches' poll

The Oglethorpe women's golf team moved up two spots to No. 16 in the latest Division III Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches Poll, released Friday by the organization. It marked the high point for the team this season after coming in 18th and 25th in the two previous releases.

The Stormy Petrels finished fifth at the BSC Southern Showdown April 15 and 16 in Birmingham, Alabama. They're competing at the SAA Golf Championships in Dickson, Tennessee, Friday through Sunday, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in mid-May. 

Carleton received 12 of 13 first-place votes and remained in the top spot, while George Fox garnered the other No. 1 vote and remained in second. DePauw continued to hold down the No. 3 spot, while Grinnell moved up three spots to No. 4. New York University dropped a spot to No. 5. Claremont-M-S, Rhodes, Williams, Redlands and Washington (Missouri) rounded out the top 10, respectively. 

No. 14 Berry and No. 23 Sewanee joined the Petrels and No. 7 Rhodes as SAA teams earning spots in the top 25.
