  • Stormy Petrels close out academic year with 2019 Petey Awards

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Seventh Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Conant Performing Arts Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2018-19 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's lacrosse places three on All-SAA teams; Mapps-Whitmore earns first-team nod for first time in program history

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team saw three players earn spots on All-SAA squads Thursday, as voted by the league's coaches. Junior defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore earned the first-ever All-SAA first team nod in the program's history, while senior attacker Madison Goss slotted in at second team and junior goalie Jordan Chandler earned honorable mention.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team took on a Centre team that beat them by 15 goals earlier in the season in the first round of the SAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Friday night in Sewanee, Tennessee. The sixth-seeded Stormy Petrels fought valiantly, though, and tied it up in the second half before falling 11-8 to the third-seeded Colonels.
  • Women's lacrosse notches first conference win with 12-11 overtime victory over Berry, clinches spot in SAA tournament

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team earned their first victory of the SAA season Tuesday evening at Valhalla stadium in Mount Berry, defeating Berry 12-11 in overtime on a sudden-death goal from senior attacker Madison Goss. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play and moved them into sixth place in the league standings.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team suffered a tough afternoon Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field against a Rhodes team that came in undefeated in SAA play. The Stormy Petrels gave up 13 goals in each period and were unable to answer back in a 26-3 defeat. The result dropped the home side to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Birmingham-Southern Panthers 13-3 Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team came back from a seven-goal deficit to pull to within just two late in their game against Point University Wednesday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The visiting Skyhawks held on for the 14-12 victory, though, dropping the Stormy Petrels to 4-6 on the season.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell 19-4 to the homestanding Centre Colonels Saturday in Danville, Kentucky. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-5 on the season overall and 0-3 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team routed the Brenau Golden Tigers 23-2 Wednesday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, tallying 15 goals in the first half to cruise to the victory. The win improved the squad to 4-4 on the season overall, matching the program's best-ever record through eight games.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to NCAA Division II side Palm Beach Atlantic 18-1 Monday night in West Palm Beach, Florida. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-4 on the season.
  • Women's lacrosse falls to Hendrix in overtime

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team suffered a tough loss in overtime Saturday morning in Conway, Arkansas, falling to the homestanding Hendrix Warriors 13-12. The Stormy Petrels were down 12-10 with 10 minutes left in the game, but came back to tie the score and send it to overtime. Hendrix scored the goal in the extra period, though, to secure the win.
  • Women's lacrosse can't overcome large first half deficit, falls at Piedmont 16-8

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell behind in-state opponent Piedmont 12-1 in the first half Tuesday night in Demorest. Though they mounted a comeback in the second half, they couldn't overcome the early deficit and fell 16-8 to the homestanding Lions. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-2 on the season.
  • Women's lacrosse tops Dallas 20-12, improves to 3-1

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team had an outstanding second half Sunday afternoon in West Point, Georgia, outscoring the Dallas Crusaders 12-4 en route to a 20-12 neutral-site win. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 3-1 on the season, marking their best-ever four-game start to a season.
  • Women's lacrosse blows out Montreat College, improves to 2-1

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team enjoyed an outstanding outing Friday afternoon, cruising to a 21-1 victory over the visiting Montreat College Cavaliers and improving to 2-1 on the young season. It marked the best record through three games in program history.
  • Women's lacrosse blanked by Sewanee, 19-0

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Sewanee Tigers in their SAA opener Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Tigers blanked the Stormy Petrels 19-0, scoring 13 goals in the opening half of play to put the game out of reach early. With the loss, the Petrels fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
  • Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore nabs SAA weekly defensive honor

    Junior defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore of the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team was named SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week by the league office Monday. It marked the second such award of her career.

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team got their 2019 season off to an outstanding start Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, besting the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 9-6 in a tight game throughout. Though the Stormy Petrels led from the 11:51 mark of the first half on, they never pushed their lead to more than four goals at any one point. The Warriors cut it to two with just under nine minutes left, but the Petrels were able to hold on for the win.
