Women's lacrosse blows out Brenau, improving to 4-4 on season

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team routed the Brenau Golden Tigers 23-2 Wednesday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, tallying 15 goals in the first half to cruise to the victory. The win improved the squad to 4-4 on the season overall, matching the program's best-ever record through eight games.

The Petrels tallied the first two goals over the opening 2:45. Brenau answered with a goal while up a player to make it 2-1, but after that, the Petrels scored the remaining 13 goals of the opening period. 

The second period went much the same. The Golden Tigers managed a single goal, but the Petrels overwhelmed them with eight more to extend their advantage to the eventual 21-goal margin.

Senior attacker Madison Goss led the Petrels with four goals on five shots while chipping in two assists and winning five draw controls. Senior midfielder Caroline Chamberlain added four goals of her own, as well. Both junior attacker Samantha Chap and junior midfielder Jill Czaplinski chipped in hat tricks of their own, scoring three goals apiece. Both added a pair of assists, as well.

Oglethorpe outshot Brenau 24-5 on goal and forced 21 Golden Tiger turnovers while committing just 11 of their own. The Petrels outdrew Brenau 15-10 and were a perfect 12-for-12 on clears. Meanwhile, the visitors were held to just 4-of-15 on their clear attempts. Oglethorpe went 3-for-4 on free position shots.

The Petrels will be back in action Saturday, when they travel to Danville, Kentucky, to take on Centre at noon. After that, they'll return home for three straight starting with a game against Point University March 27 at 5 p.m.
