The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to the No. 20 Centre Colonels in the SAA opener for both teams. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-5 on the season overall.
The Petrels had a tough task on the day against a very good Centre side, but did a good job of hanging tough in the first half. The home side tallied a goal in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but Oglethorpe sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas recorded 4 saves in the period. However, Centre scored another goal just before the halftime whistle, doubling their lead with 10 seconds to go in the period.
That took Oglethorpe from being right in the game going into the halftime break to being two goals behind. They were unable to muster much offense in the second half, either. Bolas made three more saves, but the visitors did not tally a shot during the period. Centre put in the goal that put the game away in the 55th minute.
The Colonels outshot Oglethorpe 17-0 for the game, including putting 10 shots on target. They also took 6 corner kicks to none for Oglethorpe.
Bolas finished with 7 saves for the Petrels.
The Petrels will be back in action Monday afternoon from the Oglethorpe Track and Field, where they'll take on in-state opponent Covenant at 7 p.m.
