The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to the visiting Hendrix Warriors Friday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, giving up a goal in each half to lose 2-0. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-9-1 on the season overall and 1-3-1 in SAA play.
Hendrix outshot the Petrels 10-2 in the first half, but Oglethorpe hung in and kept the game tied until the 36th minute, when the visitors nudged ahead 1-0. They took that advantage into the halftime break, then continued to outshoot the home side in the second half. They took six shots to the Petrels' three over the second 45 minutes, but again, the Petrels stayed in it for much of the period. However, they doubled their lead in the 67th minute and never looked back from there, going on to win 2-0.
The Warriors outshot the Petrels 16-5 over the course of the game, including a 5-1 mark in shots on goal. Oglethorpe took more corner kicks, however, tallying four to Hendrix's one.
The Petrels currently sit in sixth place in the league with two games to go, and will host third-place Rhodes Sunday at noon in their final home game of the regular season. The team will celebrate Senior Day before the game.
