The Oglethorpe women's tennis team enjoyed an excellent start to their spring season Friday afternoon, sweeping the visiting Agnes Scott Scotties 8-0 at the Howell Courts.
The Stormy Petrels swept all three doubles matches 8-0. The No. 1 team of junior Hannah Dattilo and senior Shannon Cruz, the No. 2 team of senior Charlotte Disley and sophomore Elizabeth Bielicki, and the No. 3 team of senior Delaney Abood and sophomore Lisette Phillips all earned solid victories.
In the singles portion of the competition, all five of the completed matches finished 6-0, 6-0 in favor of the Petrels. Cruz won at No. 2, Disley at No. 3, Abood at No. 4, Bielicki at No. 5, and Phillips at No. 6. Dattilo was the lone holdout at No. 1, as her match was 4-3 in the first set when a light rain began to fall. The two sides decided to let the dual match finish 8-0 and leave the No. 1 singles match unfinished.
The Petrels will be back in action Saturday afternoon, when they take on the visiting Covenant Scots at 2 p.m. from the Howell Courts.
