Women's Track and Field Takes Third at Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational

The Oglethorpe women's track and field team had an excellent day Friday at the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational in Sewanee, Tennessee. They finished in third place at the meet with 69.5 total points, coming in behind only Emory and Birmingham-Southern.

They were led on the evening by junior Arielle Shaw, sophomore Kayla Trice and junior Nicolette Andrey. Shaw put up her best performance of the season so far in the triple jump, recording a leap of 37 feet, 3 inches to win the event. Trice finished second in both the 100 and 200 meters, recording a time of 12.58 seconds in the former and 26.1 seconds in the latter. Andrey broke her own school record in the 400 meters, finishing in 58.95 seconds, while she also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 8.87 seconds. In addition, she came in sixth with a leap of 15-10.5 in the long jump.

All three Petrel athletes competed on the 4-x-100 relay team, which finished second with a time of 49.88 seconds. They were joined by freshman Meghan Myler on the squad. 

Elsewhere, Myler finished fourth in the 400 (1:04.02), freshman My'Chel Robinson came in fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (19.94) and sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:19.59), Myler finished fourth in the 400 (1:04.02) and freshman Courtney Stuart finished tied for fourth in the pole vault (10 feet).

"I'm pleased with the way the team performed today," said Oglethorpe head coach Kirk Shellhouse. "It was good to get a look at the venue we'll compete at for the conference meet next week, and we got some outstanding performances from up and down our roster today. I think we'll all looking forward to coming back here next weekend for the SAA Championships!"

The Petrels will be back in action April 20 and 21, when they head back to Sewanee for the SAA Track and Field Championships.
