Track and field competes at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in South Carolina

The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed a solid weekend at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The men's and women's teams posted several solid performances on the weekend despite the windy conditions near the coast in Myrtle Beach.

On the women's side, senior Arielle Shaw finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. The mark was the third-best by a Division III athlete in the event. Meanwhile, senior Nicolette Andrey finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1 minute, 6.78 seconds and coming in fourth among Division III athletes.

On the men's side, sophomore Jacob Hadden finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, setting a school record in the process. He finished in 9:32.71 and came in second among Division III athletes. Freshman Thomas Ridley finished 11th in the event and posted a time of 9:54.14, winning his heat and finishing fourth among Division III athletes. Fellow freshman Bryce McNealy finished eighth in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.39 seconds to come in first among Divsion III athletes.

The Petrels will be back in action next weekend when they return to Atlanta and travel across town for the Emory Invitational March 22 and 23.
